Project Gotham Racing 3

Musync®: You Need Better Music!

Listen To The Tracks

Problem

XBox game developers needed music to populate a car radio in Project Gotham Racing 3, a game set in the streets of London during the present. The music needed to be diverse enough to suggest a wide narrative environment but all the music needed to work to keep the gamer immersed in the game.

We know that creative directors have a tough job overseeing every aspect of their users’ experience with a product. Our job is to make their job easier. We listen carefully to the needs of the project and try to understand the aesthetic choices of the creative director. When the developers suggested Bhangra music, we didn’t jump the gun. We learned how the music will be used, how players will experience it, and how it could add to the game play. We’ve all heard 90-second music loops that sour a video game. Music is all about experience. Pick the wrong sounds and the magic is broken. We found a collection of tracks that the developers could use to populate the radio stations of the racing cars as they sped through London. The designers were very pleased and told us that the music really worked to enhance the illusion of the fantasy world they had created.
