Frito-Lay came to us, looking for music to use for their commercial “Love & Sockets” as a part of their “Made for Each Other” campaign. The client explained that the ad would feature cute and odd little characters. They were seeking out some instrumental indie pop music that was light, fluffy, warm and fuzzy. The music didn’t need to be hard or strong, but they didn’t want an easy listening piece either. They wanted the music to still have somewhat of an edge to correspond with the quirky 3D animations included in their commercial.
When our client mentioned the words light, fluffy, fuzzy, warm, and cute, the band Melodium instantly came to mind. Fronted by Laurent Girard from Angers, France, Melodium fuses a blend of pop, folk, and electronica, creating an enticingly charming sound that is as light and delicate as a floating cloud. Melodium’s compositions are simple and subtle, yet they are strongly poignant and evoke a sense of close intimacy. We sent around 5 or 6 tracks from Melodium, along with some tracks from a few other bands, but the client immediately fell in love with Melodium’s sound and eventually ended up licensing the song “Flacana 16” for their campaign. The song, which has a melancholy, yet hopeful tone, served as a fitting backdrop for “Love & Sockets,” where an adorably fumbling light bulb is in search of its perfect match. Our music paired with this commercial turned out to be a match made in heaven.
