Zeph & Azeem are experienced players in the rap game, which basically translates into layered, sophisticated music to augment detailed and descriptive rhythms. Their modern hip-hop has influences of reggae, Latin rhythms, R&B hooks, and a sample to rival. In addition to clever verses, Azeem puts his slam poetry talents to use with a couple of spoken word pieces. Zeph & Azeem take full command of the classic one-Dj/one-emcee lineup that made us love early groups like Eric B. & Rakim, Gang Starr and Pete Rock & CL Smooth.
“Rise Up,” their latest album, emanates with an almost-punk rock attitude reminiscent of the earl days of hip-hop. The album cover features Zeph & Azeem dressed in black suits reminiscent of the Blues Brothers.
Zeph & Azeem are a local Bay Area band, and their release is on a local Bay Area record label that Musync reps. It’s a great addition to Musync to have such a critically acclaimed album listed at Musync.
Zeph & Azeem’s music is perfect for sports themed films, TV shows, and video games. They are good match for a project that calls for Rap and hip-hop.

Zeph is an in-demand club DJ, who’s been active on the remix circuit for many years, in addition to producing two solo albums. Azeem is a champion slam poet as well as a performance artist and playwright (“Rude Boy”). Azeem also has five prior LPs to his credit. Together they are Zeph & Azeem.
Zeph & Azeem reintroduced the hip hop world to an intricately-layered jazz chords with “Colossus West Oaktown.” They ushered in a post-neo-soul era with “Strange Fruit Project’s The Healing.” And they showcased the non-hypy side of Bay Area rap with “Zion-I & the Grouch’ s Heroes in the City of Dope.”
The duo have been working together since 2001’s #1 college radio hit “Rubber’Glue” and had their share of ups-and-downs and setbacks in the music industry. But with the release of their latest album, “Rise Up,” they’re confident it is their best work to date—the one which will finally clue the rest of the world to their talents.
