This Weeks Featured Artist album: Lullatone - Songs That Spin In Circles

Style: Electronica, Twee Pop, Children’s Music

For Fans Of: Colleen, I Am Robot and Proud, Piana

Perfect For: Commercials for toys, baby products, and electronic products; scenes that involve characters resting/dreaming peacefully; creating calm, soothing, serene atmospheres

Lullatone was formed in the night, when a restless Shawn James Seymour began composing soft, gentle pop tunes that wouldn’t disrupt the slumber of his girlfriend, Yoshimi Tomida. Their music, which the group likes to refer to as “pajama-pop,” is characterized by innocent, child-like quality and spare, lo-fi sounds.

Originally composed for their newborn son, the duo’s latest release, “Songs That Spin in Circles,” is a lovely and alluring collection of lullabies. These set of tracks were deliberately composed to loop seamlessly using the repeat function on your music player. Their sound is a saccharine delight of cute, minimalist melodies and sumptuous analogue tenderness. The group makes brilliant use of soporific instrumentation, employing glittery glockenspiels, warm sine tones, and fluffy percussion, with tape hiss as ambient white noise. “Songs That Spin in Circles” serves as the perfect bedtime background for babies and adults alike, kindly whisking you away to a magical dreamland.

This Weeks Featured Artist album: The American Dollar - A Memory Stream

Style: Post-Rock / Ambient / Experimental-Instrumental

For Fans Of: The Album Leaf, Explosions In The Sky, God Is An Astronaut

The American Dollar are an experimental instrumental band with post-rock credentials from Queens, New York.

The name and music are part of a series of contemplative reflections based on the world we live in, and exactly how we live in it. These expressions take the form of positive, negative, and neutral emotions depending on your viewpoint and the meaning conveyed in the music, whether it is love, sadness, thought, appreciation, rejection, etc.. Meaning is personally and individually creative, a large factor which makes us human.

A Memory Stream, the third release from NYC instrumental-duo The American Dollar (John Emanuele and Richard Cupolo) shows new sides and an overall more mature sound. Working in both rock and electronic zones the album is the bands most consistent effort thus far. Creating some of their richest ambiences and most explosive moments with tracks like Lights Dim and Bump, respectively, this album made top 20 lists of critics and listeners all over the internet late last year. Despite only having released this recently the band is currently deep into their fourth full length record, slated for release late 2009, amidst extensive touring around the United States.

This Weeks Featured Artist album: Dartz! - This Is My Ship

Style: Indie Rock / Math Rock / Dance Punk

For Fans Of: Bloc Party, The Futureheads, Q and Not U.

To hear songs by Dartz! send an email to info@musync.com and we'll send you a link to three tracks.

Dealing in equal parts visceral punk, splintering math rock and kinetic pop, Dartz bring the noise. It's a fun, riotous listen with genuine heart and intriguing complexities. It's not often that words like "discordant" and "melodic" are thrown about in the same sentence, but the band's willingness to let loose with raucous dance-punk abandon while delving into more adventurous, angular soundscapes -- all without losing sight of each song's irresistible hook and propulsive beat -- makes for a cohesive and addictively explosive good time. Instantly captivating and undeniably enduring, This Is My Ship keeps an animated pace throughout its twelve exuberant tracks. Songs like "Prego Triangolos" and "St. Petersburg" give you an idea of which dynamic, spiky Q and Not U-esque school of indie rock these boys attend, but the handclaps and catchy hooks on cuts like "Once, Twice, Again!" remind us that, first and foremost, the band is here to make you move. Still, pigeonholing Dartz as anything other than an extremely intelligent, complex and exciting band would be doing them an injustice. Off-kilter riffs and catchy choruses rip a melodic groove into your brain while intersecting instrumental passages are compelling enough to keep the hipsters zigging and the punkers zagging. Make no mistake: This Is My Ship is a phenomenal release...one of the most memorable, enjoyable debuts in recent history.

This Weeks Featured Artist album: Nobody - And Everything Else...

Style: Hip Hop / Downtempo Jazz / Trip-Hop

For Fans Of: DJ Shadow, Prefuse 73, Kid Loco.

To hear songs by Nobody send an email to info@musync.com and we'll send you a link to three tracks.

Nobody does electronic hip-hop like Nobody does.

The DJ/producer also known as Elvin Estela rose from the underground hip-hop scene of the 1990s, only to become its chameleon. What came next was a stream of soulful jazz/funk/hip-hop, and sunny electronica. And in his third album, Nobody proves that he is just as good as ever.

"And Everything Else" really does live up to its name. Nobody explores the musical niches he had previously left untouched, such as alt-folk, Latin music and psychedelic rock. But he also pays homage to his hip-hop roots, for fans of his previous sounds.

Nobody's third album is a complete mixture of various styles which includes Latin rap, bass-heavy big-beats, sunny psychedelia, electronica, and even a sad, sweet acoustic solo at the end. Yes, none of the styles entirely fit together, but the catchy beats and odd electronic touches keep them linked.

This weeks featured artist album: Subatomic Sound System - On All Frequencies

Style: Dub / Dancehall / Hip Hop

For Fans Of: Thievery Corporation, King Tubby, Mad Proffesor

Subatomic Sound System ON ALL FREQUENCIES is a portrait of life in New York City done in words and sound. With an eclectic crew of men and women rolling over ten deep, it is a collection of snapshots seen through many different eyes, a reflection of a wide range of attitudes and experiences. The beauty of this city lies as much in the history of its vast musical traditions as it does in its reputation as a birthplace of innovation. Subatomic Sound System stays focused on both.

The album opens with a thumping hip hop beat, driving reggae bass line, squelchy dub echoes, and police sirens on the track Welcome To New York. At the midpoint of the album, ON ALL FREQUENCIES leans into more musically eclectic territory, with “Fly Free”, a cross between a reggae stepper, broken beat, and old school funk. Funky bass, super get down clav, and vintage guitar drive this riddim while a ton of African percussion and sultry heartfelt female vocals carry it home.
