This Weeks Featured Artist album: The American Dollar - A Memory Stream

Style: Post-Rock / Ambient / Experimental-Instrumental

For Fans Of: The Album Leaf, Explosions In The Sky, God Is An Astronaut

The American Dollar are an experimental instrumental band with post-rock credentials from Queens, New York.

The name and music are part of a series of contemplative reflections based on the world we live in, and exactly how we live in it. These expressions take the form of positive, negative, and neutral emotions depending on your viewpoint and the meaning conveyed in the music, whether it is love, sadness, thought, appreciation, rejection, etc.. Meaning is personally and individually creative, a large factor which makes us human.

A Memory Stream, the third release from NYC instrumental-duo The American Dollar (John Emanuele and Richard Cupolo) shows new sides and an overall more mature sound. Working in both rock and electronic zones the album is the bands most consistent effort thus far. Creating some of their richest ambiences and most explosive moments with tracks like Lights Dim and Bump, respectively, this album made top 20 lists of critics and listeners all over the internet late last year. Despite only having released this recently the band is currently deep into their fourth full length record, slated for release late 2009, amidst extensive touring around the United States.

This Weeks Featured Artist album: Wendy Code - Am I Snowing?

Style: Rock / Pop / Electro

For Fans Of: Visage, Goldfrapp, Blonde Redhead

To hear songs by Wendy Code send an email to info@musync.com and we'll send you a link to three tracks.

Among the many new emerging groups each year from the French independent scene, it is often difficult to find that rare gem that stands out from the lot, while still maintaining a unifying approach to the music. It seems that in this area, Wendy Code has an overwhelming talent for their alter ego and Anglo-Saxon America.

With a first album that looks like a classic adventure, based in the 70s and 80s, the group that was born in Marseille hits hard. There is indeed a Glam Rock sound hanging throughout Am I Snowing?, not to say 'Rock Opera', without ever falling into kitsch or bad taste. Wendy Code is really a group of the new millennium that has digested its influences and its compositions to confer too much modernity.

An unlikely cross between Pink Floyd, The Beatles and Goldfrapp, Wendy Code takes its full potential on a few unstoppable titles where the voice of Wendy instantly seduces us, like 'Poupée De Nuit'.

The centerpiece of this amazing disc is undoubtedly the bold 'At The Party 5: 00 AM', a title which is also a story that we live 'live', or how to record live in the studio. The song arises gently before giving way to that famous refrain that might be burning-up the dancefloors, not to mention the surprising break in the toilets of a night club, in fact. History morphs and returns to more beautiful sounds.

This Weeks Featured Artist album: Max Gabriel - The Exile Of Saint Christopher

Style: Folk / Country / Singer-Songwriter

For Fans Of: Jeff Buckley, Joe Henry, Brett Dennen

To hear songs by Max Gabriel send an email to info@musync.com and we'll send you a link to three tracks.

In 2006, NY-based Max Gabriel's music caught the ears of producer/keyboardist Scott Healy, whose wide-ranging performing and recording credits include Bruce Springsteen, Al Green, BB King, Jackson Browne, and Branford Marsalis. The result is a studio record of Gabriel's original songs, featuring the talents of some of New York's most virtuosic and well-seasoned musicians. Steve Holley (Wings, Dar Williams) and Shawn Pelton (Shawn Colvin, Bruce Springsteen) play drums, Glenn Alexander (Phoebe Snow, Elvis Costello) and Jimmy Vivino (John Sebastian, Phoebe Snow, Max Weinberg 7) play guitar, and fretless bassist Bakithi Kumalo of Paul Simon's Graceland are among a few of an ensemble that includes a full horn section and the celebrated classical group the Ahn Trio. Mark Geary and Kelley McRae lend back-up vocals. Max Gabriel's music is distinguished by startling lyrics, an unconventional voice, and often cinematic textures. At once literary and highly accessible, his songwriting has been compared to that of Leonard Cohen, Glen Hansard, and early David Byrne.
